Daniel 8 to Ezekiel 38 and Beyond

Shalom everyone,

Much has happened in the days since October 7, 2023.  At that time, the world events seemed to indicate a possible imminent invasion by Magog into Israel as per the Ezekiel 38 and 39 prophecies. Since we are well beyond the year 2023, it is clear that an invasion has not happened - yet.

Since the events of October 7, 2023, many people who study and are aware of end time prophecies have been holding their collective breath in anticipation of the manifestation of the Ezekiel 38 and 39 invasion of Israel by Magog.  Many view this prophecy as the kick-start of the end time prophecies.  Or is there another prophecy that comes before the Magog invasion prophecy and becomes the kick-start?

Please understand, the following information is a perspective that may be very plausible, but we won’t know for sure until these prophecies actually manifest. 

There is a prophecy to unfold BEFORE the Ezekiel 38 and 39 prophecy.

There is another prophecy that must manifest before the Ezekiel 38 and 39 prophecies.  Only with recent current events has that prophecy become clear enough to understand.  Once again, the seals* are being removed from prophecy and due to world events we are now able to see what had been shut.  Dr. C.I. Schofield provided a quote that is very apropos for our time, saying “The book [the Bible] is so written that as the actual time of these events approaches, the current events will unlock the meaning of the book.”

*the seals referred to are not the seven seals of the book of Revelation but refer to Daniel 12:9 where Elohim has shut up and sealed the words until the time of the end.

That prophecy which has been recently unlocked involves Daniel 8 with the ram with two long horns and a he-goat with one conspicuous (notable) horn. 

For those who are familiar with the chapter it is easy to see the prerequisites that will bring about this prophecy.  We can identify these prerequisites from an historical event which occurred around 334 BCE when Alexander the Great – the king of Greece (the notable horn) – conquered the Medes and Persians (ram with two long horns).  We know that he died soon after his conquest (notable horn broken) and that his four generals divided his kingdom into four parts (four other horns). From one of those four horns a little horn would rise up.  It was about two centuries later that the little horn appeared as Antiochus Epiphanes IV, made evident when he actually shut down the sacrifices and desecrated the sanctuary in 167 BCE, just as Daniel 8 specified.

It is well known that Bibical events, especially prophetic events repeat themselves. This enables those of us in the end times to extract clues from the historical version while we watch for the prophecy to unfold again. This way, we can prepare.

How would the Daniel 8 prophecy play out in end time events? 

With current news reports coming out of Israel, Europe, the U.S., Iran, Russia and even China, the prerequisites from Daniel 8 are being established and a foundation is being laid for something to happen soon.

Much of it has been triggered by the actions and words from the U.S. president, Donald Trump.  Since he took office, he has been moving with lightning speed to make changes on the world scene, much like Alexander the Great did. 

Towards Europe, he has spoken his intentions to cut back on military spending and threatening to leave NATO if the other member nations don’t fulfill their financial commitments.  This has jolted Europe awake at the possibility of being left defenseless, especially if Russia makes annexation moves westward beyond Ukraine towards Europe.  Right now, Europe is on a spending spree to become independently armed and self-sufficient in its own defense. Currently, they have achieved over the 2% of GDP required by the NATO agreement, and have made the decision to increase that to 5% of GDP.  As well, with the U.S. instigation of trade wars with tariffs, these are acting as additional elements to jolt decisions by European leaders to become more independent from the United States. There is much to watch in this political theater as European leaders work together (and now with Canada) to create a new world superpower. Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney became the E.U. spokesperson as he spoke openly on this subject at the 8th European Political Community Summit held on May 2-4, 2026 in Armenia (of which Canada was a participant). He said "...the world is undergoing a rupture across several dimensions in tecnology, in energy and commerce and geopolitics." He goes on to say, "It is my strong personal view that as international order will be rebuilt, but it will be rebuilt out of Europe." Keep an eye on this...for we may be seeing the birth of Magog.

Towards Iran, President Trump has focused his attention on their nuclear program.  There is much talk about developing a new nuclear deal though President Trump has added fuel to the fire by saying there are two ways to handle Iran: strike a deal or strike ‘militarily’.  And that is what happened in February, 2026, the U.S. did strike militarily against Iran because Iran would not ratify a deal on its nuclear program.

How do these world news events connect with Daniel 8? 

Here is the answer…what we are seeing in the geopolitical theater of Europe, the U.S. and Iran are the foundational elements of an Alexander the Great style move against Iran.  As mentioned, in February, 2026, the U.S. made the military move against Iran declaring this to be a NATO event. However, the other NATO nations have only offered token support.

Right now, U.S., Canada, and European officials are working independently of each other to bring Iran into this new nuclear deal.  President Trump saw the need to act quickly and took the lead to force the deal with Iran through military means.  The remaining NATO countries express their objections to this military action (for optics) but have quietly provided military support with warships, aircraft and some personnel. Iran is the ram with two long horns (Iran and its proxies), and as world events unfold more and more, it appears that NATO may well be the he-goat and President Trump may well be the notable horn. 

Since Daniel 8 records that the he-goat conquers the ram, we will wait and see the outcome when this does happen against Iran.  But of interest is that NATO will also need to go after Iran’s proxies of HAMAS, Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen and the jihadists in Judea/Samaria.  So they will have a presence in that part of the Middle East as well.  Currently (May, 2026), the U.S. is holding off on another round of attacks against Iran, which has been severely crippled in its oil infrastructure. But the threat of further attacks by the U.S. is very possible. Meanwhile, Israel has initiated military strikes on Hezbollah strongholds in Lebanon, severely crippling Hezbollah's military infrastructure. Will this finally result in the defeat of the ram with two long horns (Iran)? We continue to watch and wait.

But, this sets the stage for the next set of prophecies that involve Ezekiel’s accounts of judgment against Israel’s immediate neighbours; Ammon, Moab, Edom (Esau), Philistia (Gaza), Tyre and Egypt.  These prophecies are recorded in Ezekiel 21, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 35 (plus in other scriptures as well*).  These very same neighbours are currently hosting Iranian proxies.  Will the Alexander the Great style of military action by the U.S. be the force that brings about the judgment against these nations that Ezekiel wrote about?  It could very well be the case.

*as an interesting quick side note: the prophecy in Zephaniah 2 is about the end time outcome of Gaza (Philistia).  The crux is that Gaza will be uninhabited and returned to Judah.  Shortly after his inauguration in 2025, President Trump proposed the idea of relocating the Gazan people to other countries such a Syria, Africa, Egypt, Jordan.  This is an attention getting action on President Trump’s part that could very well lead to the sooner than later manifestation of this prophecy. Again, we watch and wait.

Moving along, as the future unfolds in the prophetic manner, that shortly after the downfall of Iran and its proxies, the notable horn will be broken.  The outcome will fulfill the prophecy as long as the horn is ‘broken’ (becomes ineffective).  Once that happens, the NATO alliance will divide into four parts.  Quite possibly into: a Mediterranean region; a central European region; a northern European region and a North American region.

Daniel 8 records that sometime after the division of the he-goat (NATO) into four parts, the little horn will come out of one of the four horns.  The way it is worded seems to make this happen shortly after the division of the alliance.  But Daniel’s account is focused on the bigger picture without getting into the finer details that will be happening between the divisions to the events of the little horn.

And what are these finer details? 

This is where the prophecies in Ezekiel come in, culminating with Ezekiel 38 and 39.  The finer details involve the judgments of the neighbouring nations of Israel, followed by the destruction of the invading Magog.  Ezekiel 39:9 states that the result of that destruction will be seven years of relative peace for Israel as they don’t have to use their own resources.  That period of seven years will also give Europe (NATO) time to rebuild which becomes the platform that will enable the little horn to rise up and initially dominate that region before moving onward as it waxes great.  When that happens, many other prophecies begin to manifest.

To sum this letter as plainly as possible; 

Europe is arming itself for independence while President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu are going after Iran and its proxies (with some European support). These events could be the trigger for Daniel 8 to completely manifest. It may take some time for all of this to manifest but within that time the notable horn on the he-goat will be broken and four other horns will rise up in its place.  In this scenario, NATO will become a much different entity as it recreates itself - just as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said.

Then in the midst of the new NATO (it may be called something different), a number of its leaders (Gog) may feel it is necessary to build up a campaign against Israel (through the many hooks that YHVH is placing in the waters to catch Gog’s attention).  These hooks involve Magog's 'need' to establish themselves as a world superpower and what better way to do that by being the power that brings peace and security in the Middle East. This will involve attempting to override Israel’s sovereignty.  Once the members of Gog have the hooks placed in their jaws, the invasion by Magog will occur resulting in the destruction of Magog (the new NATO out of Europe) and its cohorts of Meshach, Tubal, Persia (newly conquered Iran), Gomer, Togarmah, Libya and Ethiopia.  These cohorts are the nations that are on the periphery of the neighbour nations of Israel that will also experience judgment at the same time as Magog (Ezekiel 21, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 35).

Clearly, this shows that YHVH will be destroying a vast army.  Yet, in the King James Version of Ezekiel 39:2 it states “and I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:” The destruction won’t be a total destruction because a sixth part of this new NATO in Europe will not be destroyed.  From the opposite perspective this means that five sixths will be destroyed which will truly be devastating for Europe.  This will bring about a huge political and economic power vacuum in that region that will require immediate attention.

So, for the next seven years, while Israel is utilizing the spoils of that destruction of Magog (Ezekiel 39:9), Europe will be rebuilding.  This is setting the stage for yet another prophecy to take place – the prophecies about the little horn.

In a nutshell, Daniel 7 explains the rising up of the little horn will be in the midst of 10 other horns that are part of the new NATO (that is of itself divided into four horns).  It is interesting to note that Europe has ten monarchies that will most likely step up to the plate and attempt to govern Europe immediately after Magog’s destruction.  Yet their efforts will be like the ten toes of iron mixed with clay in Daniel 2.  That is when the little horn will see an opportunity and make his move of dominance.  He rises up from one of the four divisions of the new NATO (which is the Daniel 7 dreadful beast) and uproots three of the ten horns (kings).  This gives him controlling power over the group and he begins to wax great with his understanding of the dark sentences given to him (which implies that he is receiving guidance from another entity [hasatan] that is far superior to him).

From there, the little horn will go through a number of transformations (documented in scripture by the various names for this horn) until he becomes the one we anticipate as The anti-messiah or the beast of Revelation 13.  For details about the various transformations please read the article “Other Names of the Anti-Messiah (Anti-Christ)”and “Understanding the Prophetic Beasts”.

In the end, the little horn receives its ‘reward’ as said in Daniel 8:25 “but he shall be broken without hand.” That is describing the capture of the beast that will then be cast into the lake of fire with the false prophet.

A time of blessing for YHVH’s people in the midst of end time prophecies.

Even though this article focuses on the evil aspects of prophecy, within that same time period will be a great blessing for YHVH’s people.  Ezekiel 39:25-29 tells us three aspects of that blessing: we come to KNOW YHVH; the exile ends and we can return to The Land; the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit) is poured out upon His people.  This is telling us that we will have a seven year period of time of spiritual empowerment to become strengthened and filled with resolve as His people so we confidently face the events to come after the seven years of relative plenty. What comes next?  As per the example of Joseph, there will be seven years of famine of the hearing of the words of Adonai (Amos 8:11), followed by the 3 ½ years of tribulation and then Yeshua’s return. 

When will all this happen? As per the Timeline of End Time Events on this website, the anticipation is for the invasion by Magog to begin in the Fall of 2027. So, if the Gog/Magog invasion happens in the Fall of 2027, this means that the prophecies outlined in this article about Daniel 8 through and into Ezekiel 38 and 39 may well transpire sometime between now and the Fall of 2027.

As we come to know Their plan for us, we will be able to answer the Messiah in the affirmative when He asks if there are any faithful. 

Again, just to reiterate, until prophecy manifests, we can only speculate.  This article is to provide a perspective what may very well happen between now and 2027 – and beyond.
